Audio-frequency and loud-speaker cables are used to transmit «words as well as music» signals. In most cases, the electrical transmission path is quite short, nevertheless, the cables have to meet high standards as far as the quality of the transmission is concerned.
Loud-speaker cables are manufactured, in most cases, in parallel construction. The conductors are made up of flexible or highIy flexible copper strands. It is generally recognised that a more «original» transmittance is obtained with highIy flexible copper strands than with flexible copper strands.
Audio-frequency cables have to have good shielding constructions to minimise external influences. Values of mutual capacity, inductance and operative attenuation have to be kept as low as possible. Audio-frequency cables are manufactured in coaxial and symmetrical configuration. They are used as superior medium in the Hi-Fi technique (amplifier, recorder, CD player, tape-desk, etc.) and in professional studio equipment. The types of insulation materials used are Polyethylene, cellular-polyethylene and special PVC compounds. The conductor and shield materials used are plain bare copper, tinned copper, silver plated copper and in rare instances plain silver.
